- EXP: Expiration date. Wyoming driver's licenses issued on or after July 1, 2024 are valid for 7 years and expire on your birthday.
ISS is the field a form wants when it asks for your "driver's license issue date," not DOB. They print close together on the card, so it's worth a second look before you fill in the wrong one.
What does DD mean on a Wyoming driver's license?
The Document Discriminator, or DD, is unique to your physical card rather than to you as a driver, and it changes with every new card printed. Your license number is the constant; the DD is not. It's the number banks and rental companies check to confirm a card hasn't been tampered with.
If a form asks for a "document number" apart from your license number, DD is what it wants.
Restrictions on a Wyoming driver's license
WYDOT lists any driving restrictions in the field on the front of the card. If it shows None, your license has no restrictions. Wyoming does not publish a single short letter-code chart for standard non-commercial restrictions the way some states do; common restrictions like corrective lenses or daylight-only driving are printed in plain language on the card, while commercial license holders use a separate, longer CDL restriction system.

Wyoming REAL ID: the gold star
Wyoming offers both standard and REAL ID-compliant licenses. A REAL ID Wyoming license has a gold star in the upper right corner. House Bill 130, passed by the Wyoming Legislature in 2024, extended the standard driver's license expiration from the fifth year after issuance to the seventh year. The change applies to licenses issued on or after July 1, 2024. If you're holding an older license issued before that date, it may still run on the previous 5-year cycle until your next renewal puts you on the new schedule. Either way, Wyoming still requires an in-person visit to an exam station once every ten years, even if you renew online or by mail in between.
How to renew a Wyoming driver's license

You must still appear in person at your local exam station for a first-time license or if your Wyoming license has already expired.
